The Department of Classics at the University of Georgia has a long tradition of outreach to the Georgia Classics community. The Department provides leadership and administrative support for the activities of the Georgia Classical Association, including the GCA Teacher Placement Service, which provides listings of K-12 Latin teaching positions in Georgia and the Southeast.

We work with a number of other state and national Classics organizations in order to promote the study and teaching of Classical languages and culture at all levels. For links and more information about Classics organizations and resources in Georgia and throughout the country, please visit our Scholae page.

As part of our outreach efforts, members of the Department also welcome the opportunity to visit your Latin or Greek class to introduce our program and course offerings to your students. The following faculty members would be happy to visit your classroom:

Dr. Robert Curtis
Dr. Mario Erasmo
Dr. Charles Platter

In the spring of each year, the Department welcomes the Classics community to Athenaze, our annual open house and reunion event that includes lectures, performances and panel discussions on teaching Latin and Greek. We encourage the participation of high school students in the Athenaze program, including a certamen competition sponsored by the UGA chapter of Eta Sigma Phi.

Please contact Nicholas Rynearson, Chair of the Outreach Committee, for more information about our outreach efforts or to make suggestions on how the Department of Classics can better serve the Georgia Classics community.
