NATIONAL LATIN TEACHER RECRUITMENT WEEK (NLTRW). Held annually the first week of March and co-sponsored by the American Classical League, the American Philological Association, the UGA Department of Classics, and UGA's chapter of Eta Sigma Phi.
INFORMATION SESSION FOR PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS: 4:00-5:30 pm, 222 Park Hall (Alexander Room).A question-and-answer session for undergraduate and graduate students who wish to know more about opportunities for teaching Latin in middle or high-school, how to prepare, how to find a job, how to compose a resume, etc. Several new and veteran Latin teachers and school personnel will be present to answer questions, as will Classics professors Keith Dix and Rick LaFleur, both of whom have extensive experience working with current and prospective secondary-school teachers. Refreshments will be served, and there will be a drawing for NLTRW t-shirts and mugs, custom-designed for UGA and inscribed with the ancient Roman exhortation: “Ite, vos, canes hirsuti!”
ATHENAZE - The Department welcomes the Classics community to Athenaze , our annual open house and reunion event that includes lectures, performances and panel discussions on teaching Latin and Greek. We encourage the participation of high school students in the Athenaze program, including a certamen competition sponsored by the UGA chapter of Eta Sigma Phi.

THERESA A. SINGLETON, "Rethinking the archaeology of the Gullah-Geechee" - 3:30 pm in Student Learning Center 248. Presented by UGA and the Center for Archaeological Sciences. Theresa A. Singleton hails from the Department of Anthropology at Syracuse University and is the author of The Archaeology of Slavery and Plantation Life and the editor of I, too, am American: Archaeological Studies of African-American Life.
