Students are encouraged to read Ken Kitchell’s Careers for Classicists, distributed by the American Philological Association and available in the Teacher Resource Center (Park Hall 225). This pamphlet was revised in 1999 and contains much useful information about possible career tracks for students with an M.A. in Classics

Opportunities for employment in higher education and school administration are limited, and competition for available openings is high. Candidates seeking these positions must understand the unique procedures followed in advertising these jobs, applying for them, and in hiring. First, most colleges and universities, and many school systems, will circulate their vacancies nationally in publications targeted for academics or school administrators. Check the Georgia Classical Association's Placement Service for Georgia-based teaching positions. The Chronicle of Higher Education, Administrator’s Career Monthly, Change: The Magazine of Learning, Today’s Education, The Affirmative Action Register, and the Academic Journal all list available positions. Candidates should also consult the APA website and placement service for job listings in Classics, classical archaeology, ancient history etc.
